Tackle the problem at the roots!
Roots can be incredibly strong and cause damage to buildings, pipes and infrastructure. Some plants have invasive roots, like bamboo. But did you know that roots can often be controlled quite easily? HDPE root barriers have been a standard tool for many municipalities for years in the battle against uncontrolled root growth.
How does it work?
Roots grow towards moisture and nutrients. By placing an HDPE root barrier vertically around the roots, they encounter an impenetrable surface. This physical barrier ensures that roots cannot grow horizontally where they could cause damage but are instead directed deeper into the ground. This way, they won’t push up pavements and underground pipes and cables remain protected.
Durability
Our root barrier is made from the thickest material on the market. HDPE of 1.5 mm is thick, sturdy and impenetrable. It is also odorless, non-toxic and highly durable. Since roots will always look for space, the barrier must stay in the ground for the entire life of the tree, plant or shrub. HDPE has a lifespan of over 50 years, so it can remain in place without problems as a permanent barrier.
Ideal depth
The root barrier can be placed in a circle around the tree, plant or shrub, or it can be installed along pipelines. The ideal depth is approximately 55 cm, with the barrier protruding 5 cm above ground. This ensures roots cannot grow over it. Make sure the ends overlap.
We sell root barrier at rolls of 50 x 0,60 meters, in the colour black.
